Classes may be on recess this week, but BGC Dawson is in full session! Monday marked the start of the annual Spring Break Camp for children 4-12 years old.
The camp began with a special pajama day as the kids got comfortable getting to know each other. Ellen and Abby, pictured below, couldn’t wait to share what they love most about camp. “I am so excited to see all of my day camp friends this week,” exclaimed Abby. When thinking about the week ahead, Ellen chimed in, “I’m most excited for the special activities that happen during camp”. The gigantic indoor snowball fight animated by our friends at Everblast is going to be epic!
With outings being limited due to COVID-19 restrictions, Camp Coordinator Cindy Cohen and her team of animators have planned an exciting week of fun-filled activities. “Campers will have the opportunity to participate in numerous indoor and outdoor recreational activities on top of a specialized daily theme,” explains Cindy.
From nerf wars to Olympic Games, each day is action packed with indoor and outdoor activities. On Thursday, a special presentation is planned with Educazoo. Their team will open the eyes of children to the fascinating world of reptiles, mammals and amphibians. Through interactive presentations, campers will have the opportunity to handle domestic and exotic animals and to learn more about them.
Now in her 18th year at BGC Dawson, Cindy Cohen remembers animating her first Spring Break Camp with lots of emotions. “Today my youngest child had her first day camp experience at BGC Dawson. It is remarkable to this that she started in the same group I used to be the animator of! Just imagine, the campers I had in my group 18 years ago are now the camp councillors for my children! This is definitely a full-circle moment!” remarks Cindy.
As Spring Camp comes to a close, it is the perfect time to plan ahead for Summer Day Camp! Every year, BGC Dawson offers 8 weeks of summer day camp filled with games, outings and lots of swimming! Camp costs $150 per week with scholarships available. “We want to ensure that every child has access to an incredible summer camp experience” concludes Cindy Cohen.
