In Quebec, many organizations has been join their forces to celebrate the
Latin American Heritage Month every year, and in our district of Verdun, MANA (la Maison d’Accueil des Nouveaux Arrivants), located on l’ile des Sœurs, organizes the annual awards for successful integration. This celebration recognizes the achievements of immigrants who have integrated well into Quebec society.
This year MANA is organizing its fifth intercultural heritage recognition Gala, which will take place on October 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Maison de la Culture de Verdun, 5160 Boulevard La Salle, Montreal, QC. H4H 1N8 (if you are interested in participating, please write to info@manamtl.org or call (438) 837-9223).
« The aim is to set an example to encourage other immigrants, showing them that it is possible to succeed as an immigrant. «
In 2023, the organization will recognize the careers of: Johana Botero, CEO of Nurses Canada, originally from Colombia, Carlos Bracamonte and César Salvatierra Peruvians that has been created the Hispanophone magazine, and Jean Philippe Proulx, teacher for the welcome class at Nuns’ Island Elementary School, original from Québec
« The aim is to set an example to encourage other immigrants, showing them that it is possible to succeed as an immigrant. Demonstrating as well that Canada and Quebec offer the necessary spaces for a dignified integration. This is difficult, but not impossible. We’ve also decided to reward the kind-hearted Québécois who facilitate this integration, » says Yajanna Pupo, MANA’s founder and general director.
As well as the Gala MANA also celebrates its 5th anniversary. Five years of history dedicated to welcoming newcomers, opening doors and giving them hope for a better life. That is why the celebration will be marked by diverse and inclusive moments such as the play « Sans Repère, au-delà de l’immigration », by artist Fabián Silguero, which is described as a « tribute to all the people who have left their homes, their families, and their history to settle elsewhere ».
