The world is constantly changing. We work, communicate, and interact continually, moving in a forward trajectory, sometimes at dizzying speeds. Constant advances in technology have allowed us to save time and effort on all kinds of everyday tasks. We now can do so much online that it often feels we could run the world from our pockets. Everything can be accomplished from banking to shopping, doctor appointments, to vacations without ever going out. Schools and clubs have been offering online registration, and parents are thankful for the reprieve from long lines and being placed on hold. How can we be sure that everyone is getting access to the services they need in such a fast-paced world? At BGC Dawson, member service and accessibility are at the core of what we do. We have leaped to online registration to improve both, and we’re not leaving anyone behind!

When I sat down with Sophia Kopyna of member services, I got a complete understanding of just how much online registration has improved service. “One of the things I’m most proud of is increasing accessibility. It presents an equal opportunity in registration.” says Sophia. Online registration reaches people outside of Verdun who might not have had the opportunity to participate in online activities otherwise. At the height of the pandemic, when even summer camp was virtual, online registration allowed more members to participate. The numbers show that people are responding; with 1046 accounts and 713 participants, it’s safe to say this is catching on. With online registration for all programs, including for the first time our Saturday programming, the transition is complete.
What about those who are not at ease with computers or don’t have access to a computer or internet service? “We have always been there to help. We welcome them, and we empower them.” Says Sophia. Anyone is free to come in person and receive whatever assistance they need to ensure their participation. As someone who struggles with technology, I’m happy to report firsthand that the help comes with a big smile and tremendous patience in typical Dawson fashion. The goal, as usual, is to make sure everyone is included and at ease.
