The Montreal Seed Festival held annually by Cultiver Montreal and Space for Life, begins today.
There are multiple presentations every day between now and Sunday. This year, everything is online and free, except for a five-hour workshop Friday. For the most part, the presentations take place in French, but speakers can answer questions in English.
For the full schedule in English, visit http://calendrier.espacepourlavie.ca/seedy-weekend-911186.
Verdun resident Shawn Manning, one of the co-owners of Urban Seedling, will be one of the presenters this year.
You probably heard Shawn on CBC’s Radio Noon last week when he appeared talking about house plants.
On Saturday, he’ll take part in a round-table called “Horticultural products and services: all you need to start your garden.” It takes place at 3 p.m. on Saturday. You can sign up at this link. (Note: the schedule highlights Trevor, but Shawn’s presenting.)
Urban Seedling is the family-owned company that operates the garden centre within Grand Potager at the Verdun greenhouses 7,000 blvd. Lasalle. They’ve already opened their virtual store, which will be restocked with seeds tomorrow. Curbside pickup is available via appointment.
They’ll be hiring for the season soon. Shawn says “we pride ourselves in our diverse inclusive team of people that includes anglophones, francophones, visible minorities and LGBTQ.”
If you love their seedlings and planting soil like I do, you’ll have to wait a bit. Shawn says that their custom soil blend won’t be available until mid-April at the earliest.
