Want to use your skills to make a difference in the lives of children, youth, families, and seniors? Why not consider joining the Board of Directors of one of Verdun’s outstanding community organizations: BGC Dawson.
BGC Dawson is currently recruiting new board members to join the organization for a 2-year mandate starting in June 2022. Present in Verdun for more than 60 years, BGC Dawson is a non-profit recreational and educational organization that serves Verdun residents by providing programs for all generations to meet, learn and grow as individuals and support each other to form a stronger sense of community.
Ann Guy a long time Verdun resident and former Montreal City Councillor served on BGC Dawson’s Board of Directors from 2014-2018. “The best way to know a community is to get involved” says Guy. “I first got involved as a new parent,” explains Alicia Mancini, President of the Board of Directors. “It has been an incredible experience and a fantastic way to give back and stay connected to the community.”

The role of our Board of Directors is to provide governance to the organization, identify and monitor strategic priorities, set organizational policies and determine innovative ways to promote and expand services within the community. BGC Dawson values the different perspectives, knowledge, skills and interests that each director brings to the Board.
BGC Dawson is currently recruiting board members with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Human Resource Management;
- Non-profit Governance;
- Financial Management;
- Risk Management;
- Legal;
- Fundraising/ Financial Partnerships;
- Communications/ Community Engagement;
- Technology and Information Management.
Board positions are open to community members who:
- Are over 18 years old;
- Are supportive of the Mission and Vision
- Are available once a month for board/committee meetings;
The Board meets 8-10 times a year to discuss and review operations and committee work. The approximate time commitment for this position is 2-4 hours per month. Previous board experience is not essential but would be considered an asset.

BGC Dawson encourages applications from people with diverse backgrounds and lived experience, including those identifying as Indigenous, people of colour, members of non-dominant ethnic, religious, linguistic, and/or cultural groups, immigrants/newcomers, and LGBTQ2S+ people.
